What is a Video Service Delivery site?
VSD sites are third-party locations — libraries, community centers, tribal offices, health clinics, and similar facilities — equipped with secure video conferencing technology that connects you directly with SSA staff at a remote field office.
They exist specifically for people in rural or underserved areas where traveling to a full field office would require an unreasonably long trip.
What to expect at a VSD site
- Appointments are required. VSD sessions are scheduled in advance through your nearest SSA field office — not at the VSD site itself. Call 1-800-772-1213 or use the link below to schedule.
- Services are conducted by video. An SSA representative at a remote office handles your case via secure video link. Bring the same documents you would bring to an in-person visit.
- The site provides the equipment. Staff at the VSD location assist with the video connection but are not SSA employees and cannot process your claim.
- Not all services are available by video. Complex cases may still require an in-person visit to a field office.
VSD sites do not accept walk-ins and are not staffed by SSA employees. Always schedule your appointment through SSA before visiting a VSD location.
